Our People
John Godfrey
John Godfrey is Director of Training and owner of Artful Training . He has worked in festival and theatre fundraising and general management in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom before specialising in training.
He began his career as a non profit community arts administrator in 1979 in New Zealand. His fundraising career began in 1989, for the Sydney Festival. In 1992 he was invited to be the Edinburgh International Festival’s Development Director and to establish their new fundraising team. He moved to London in 1995, where he helped found an HIV/Aids charity. John later returned to Edinburgh to manage Edinburgh University’s £20M capital fundraising programme for a new medical research institute. Thereafter he was appointed to run a £5M capital fundraising programme for Napier University’s new business school campus and subsequently managed capital campaigns for the National Library of Scotland and Stirling University, Scotland.
In 2004 he completed a dissertation on business support for the arts and founded Artful Fundraising. Concurrently he worked as an Associate Consultant for an international fundraising and management consultancy.
John Godfrey originally graduated from Toi Whakaari, the New Zealand Drama School and later achieved a Graduate Diploma in Arts Administration, a BA in Opera Studies and an MSc in Business Administration
He is a certified NLP Trainer and is completing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Malcolm Moir
Malcolm’s career has spanned the arts, sport and other lifestyle projects in both Australia and New Zealand in the areas of General Management and Business Development.Past positions have included Corporate Development Manager at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum, Director of Development at Opera Australia, Group Manager, Sponsorship Sales at Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and currently as Head of Business Development for Sydney Festival. During his career he has also undertaken many high profile business development activities in Australasia, ranging from Phantom of the Opera though to the amazing Sky View Observation Wheel and the Shanghai World Expo in 2011
He is a guest lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and holds a Masters Degree in Management from UTS and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Australian and New Zealand School of Government. Malcolm is able provide useful insights to all people in the sector.
Jon Maxim
Jon is a Sydney-based freelance copywriter with 25 years experience throughout Europe and Australia. He has won numerous awards, and is one of only 300 members worldwide of the prestigious US Echo Academy.
He is a popular and in-demand speaker throughout Asia Pacific, with feedback such as ‘more useful than an entire Uni degree’ and ‘you can walk away and apply immediately’.
