Fundraising Databases
The fundraising database is essential to any sizeable fundraising activity. Properly used, a good database is a very powerful tool for managing and reporting on the large number of complex relationships that hold together a successful fundraising programme. A fundraising campaign of any ambition will benefit from the correct use of such a database and should not be begun without a plan to implement such a system when preparing for the campaign.
Capital Campaigns
A Campaign Strategy is proposed that follows these basic principles
- Successful building or capital campaigns invariably reflect the 80-20 principle – 80 percent of the target is achieved from twenty percent of the donors.
- Donations will come from individuals, trusts and foundations, and companies.
- The Campaign begins with a “quiet” phase before a public launch and a public fundraising phase.
- Requests for donations are based on a carefully developed “Case for Support”.
- Donors are asked by campaign leaders to make gifts after careful research and sensitive cultivation.
- Campaign leadership itself is carefully recruited and will themselves usually have made a gift to the campaign.

The gift table is one of the most useful fundraising tools. Use it to determine whether a fundraising target is feasible by checking you have sufficient prospects at each level of the gift table to achieve the target. Most importantly, determine whether there are sufficient prospects at the highest gift levels: most of the target sum will be raised from these largest contributors.
